I’ve been dreaming of the Robbie Robertson Last Waltz Strat a lot recently… as a guitar builder, there are always a hand full of builds that are difficult to let go, and that one falls into this category! Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the home that the RRLWS went to, I know Bri loves it and treats it right… I love this wiring so much, super simple, and all three tones are my favorite….
Robbie Robertson was a Tele player, and always complained that the middle pickup on a stratocaster got in the way of his picking hand. So his solution was to flip the middle pickup around and stack it on top of the bridge, and then wire them in series for beefy tone similar to a humbucker. Then went with a simple 3way switch with position 3 being the neck, position 2 having all three pickups together which gives you a similar tone to a telecaster, with Tone 1 having a .047 cap….and then position 1; the beefy goodness that is the middle and bridge wired together in series.
Anywho I decided to build out some “Izabella” S-Style’s with standard issue colors but with all the tones that fabled guitar brought! Don’t let a three position strat style guitar scare you away, this one plays and sounds incredible!
