So here we have an absolutely awesome “WG” cut by Scott at Sand Hill Customs. Then Jeff’s Pyrography here is beautiful, topped of with colored stains. So this is a basswood body which makes it super managable just under 7.5 lbs. This one is not only badass looking, it has some fantastic sustain and natural resonance. But the artwork is just stunning up close! From thede we went with a Phantom Gray stain that was gently sanded back, and then it was given several coats of thin Clear Nitro.
This neck was the perfect match for this beast, it’s an Hombre Style, Mahagony neck with a Rosewood Fingerboard, is a 24 3/4 scale, 22 Med. Low Frets, 12” radius, a modern C profile that was finished on several thin coats of lacquer before being buffed out to a super smooth satin finish. To top it off we went with a set of vintage style locking tuners with the green/pearl knobs that match everything perfectly.
I’ve seen hardware from Van Dyke-Harms before, and all of their work not only looks immaculate and smooth, its made to handle a massive nuclear blast. So for this build I decided to try one out, and holy canoli, this thing is beefy, has a ton of mass in the best of ways and gives this WG an absolutely solid tone foundation with its stainless steel and compensated brass saddles. Just wow!
The wiring is standard for this one, I felt that the pickups needed a simple platform for them to shine! And this set of Tone Specific ‘57/‘61s do just that! The 57/61 Deluxe Set blends the warmth and bloom of 1957 with the punch and authority of 1961—giving you the ultimate all-around P.A.F. voice. Tone Specific makes some outstanding pickups, and these PAF’s are so badass!
Anyway, this one of a kind build is the perfect addition to anyone’s arsenal! It will cover just about anything style you want to throw at it!
